♥ One More Day

Tomorrow is finally the day when I'll be flying back home. I'm not sure how I'm feeling right now, because I kind of feel sad since both of my house mates had already left, but happy at the same time because I'll be reunited with my family soon. Add to add to these feelings, I'm currently listening to F4's Yan Huo De Jie after so long... wahahh! And it's raining out side, and it feels like beginning of winter all over again.

Anyways, I called and went on skype with my family the whole night yesterday. It's a bit weird since I'm only going back in a few days. But I ended up talking to mom and dad for almost 4 hours straight. It's a record so far, hehe. We talked about stuff that I should and will bring back home, and I showed my mom what I bought for my brother for his birthday, which is today. (HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABANG!!! Hehe should I call him now and disturb his beauty sleep? It's like 5am over there) I bought a few stuff for friends as well, and lot and LOTS of Australian Cadbury Chocolate, and a packet of Lamington... I think I spent over a hundred for these. -__- Or maybe I shouldn't have told you that. LOL! But to be truthful, there are more stuff I want to get for people back home, but I was always conscious of the amount of AUD in my account. Always. There were many cute plushies on sale that I wanted to buy for my sister, but despite the sale, the price is still high for that mere cute plushie.. And things like that. Even hand-bags here are lovely, but once I look at the price tag, I became pressured to choose ONLY the MOST GORGEOUS looking hand-bag that will fit my mom's preferences PERFECTLY. In the end, I bought none, because I value my money too much. *sigh*

I had a fairly difficult time at Harbour Town yesterday. Even my friend was complaining that I'm too picky on these stuff. Well, I really hope that what I buy will bring great value and happiness to my family back home, although I think some of the items I already bought won't be as valuable as others...

♥ Undecided

This post isn't written for any specific purpose. I just had a crave to write something, and this matter came to mind. And since I just watched the news a few minutes ago, I just wanted to get the thought out of my mind so that I can continue to study peacefully tonight. LOL!

At first I was amused and a tiny bit excited to watch Australia's National election take place this year as its my first whole year staying in Australia as an International student. The election was already held in August 21st actually. There are 3 political parties that I've got to know about: Labor, Liberal and The Greens. But out of these three, only 2 had been dominating the election scene, which is the Labor and Liberal parties. I can't match who leads what because I tend to get them switched at some point, but I know that the two head of parties that had been competing with each other were Julia Gillard (PM) and Tony Abbott (Opposition). Well, don't blame me, two popular parties that starts with 'L' isn't always the easiest to distinguish for this new foreigner~ XP

The Parliamentary seats were halved after the election, as Liberal and Labor each won 71 and 72 seats. If this was Malaysia, I think the Labor party will immediately be announced as the winner of the election. But since this is Australia, everything is yet to be announced, because now they're in the stage of getting votes from other important people in the political scene. Either one of them who gets the more recognition from wise leaders will get to lead the new government *which I hope won't be Mr Tony*. haha! It's not that I have a grudge against him or anything, but my observation tells me that Australians would prefer NOT to have him as a leader. XD And seeing him for who the media had portray him as, I don't think I'd want it as well. -__-'

All I'd like to say is, I miss Kevin Rudd... I want him back as the Prime Minister. If there hasn't been the argument about the mining tax, Kevin Rudd would still be the PM, and he'd easily win this election, as I'm sure most Australians still loves him. Just look how much the preference for Labor party decreased after Julia Gillard takes over. *sigh*

And as what the Quran says (not quoting specifically), women are not meant to lead the men, and if they do, the nation will cease to develop to be as powerful as those lead by men. Unless the women takes the lead from their husband on behalf, then things might just turn out a little better. In which I have to agree. The purpose of why men were created as men and women as women is divine. It is not wrong to demand for equality between the two, but some things are just not meant to be questioned. And at some point, the women should be willing to surrender at any cost.

I really don't prefer in Julia Gillard taking over, but I don't want Mr Tony to take over either. I want Mr kevin Rudd!

♥ Universitas 21

I just found out that UQ is part of this group, which consists of 23 top research-intensive universities in the world! Other universities are:

  1. University of Melbourne (Australia)
  2. University of New South Wales (Australia)
  3. University of Queensland (You are here)
  4. University of British Columbia (Canada)
  5. McGill University (Canada)
  6. Fudan University (China)
  7. Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China)
  8. University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong)
  9. University of Delhi (Inida)
  10. University College Dublin (Ireland)
  11. Waseda University (Japan)
  12. Techologico de Monterrey (Mexico)
  13. University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
  14. University of Auckland (New Zealand)
  15. National University of Singapore (Singapore)
  16. Korea University (South Korea)
  17. Lund University (Sweden)
  18. University of Birmingham (United Kingdom)
  19. University of Edinburgh (United Kindom)
  20. University of Glasgow (United Kingdom)
  21. University of Nottingham (United Kingdom)
  22. University of Connecticut (USA)
  23. University of Virginia (USA)

... being the bolded ones where I would like to be at~ XD Yeah, some of the universities I didn't even expect to make it to the list. Come on, University of Notts in the UK? I've only seen that university as having the most Malaysian cramped inside it than any other overseas universities~ lol! no offense guys hahah~ But yeah. And I was a wee bit surprised that none of the well-known top universities in the UK such as LSE or Cambridge are part of the list. Maybe they didn't do as much research, or maybe they think they're too good that this petty group is not even worth joining for.

    Well, whatever...

Here's a profile article of UQ taken from their offical site. ;D

The University of Queensland (UQ) ranked top 50 in the world by the Times Higher Education Supplement, is one of Australia’s premier learning and research institutions and has won more Australian Awards for University Teaching than any other university in Australia.

It is the largest and oldest university in Queensland and has produced generations of graduates who have gone on to become leaders in all areas of society and industry. Internationally renowned for its highly-awarded teaching staff, acclaimed researchers and superior campus facilities and environment, UQ boasts a longstanding reputation for quality and excellence, which is reinforced by affiliations with prestigious national and international groups.

The University is a founding member of the prestigious Group of Eight (Go8) — an alliance of Australian universities committed to maintaining the highest international standards. UQ is also one of only three Australian members of Universitas 21, an elite international network of leading research-intensive universities.

The University of Queensland graduates are in demand throughout Australia and the world and include a Nobel Laureate, an Oscar winner, a Governor-General, premiers, governors, chief justices, Australian and overseas government ministers, champions of sport, business and the arts and an almost unbroken line of Rhodes Scholars.

Today, more than 37,900 students, including 7500 international students from around 120 countries, study across four superb south-east Queensland campuses at St Lucia, Herston, Ipswich and Gatton. UQ St Lucia, the university’s largest campus, is situated in Brisbane, a dynamic capital city known for its excellent climate, safe environment and affordable quality of life.

Students at UQ choose from more than 350 high-quality programs and 4000 courses, including full-degree, Study Abroad, student exchange, English language training, and an academic foundation bridging program.

And yeah, UQ is definitely one of the members of the Group of 8, which is a cluster of the best universities in Australia. It's a bit similar like the Ivy League, minus the corruption LOL!

Anyways, it's good to know that your university has its own hidden quality that will make it stand out more than the others. =) I won't complaint anymore~

p/s: I got to eat Ais Kacang yesterday! OMG, Ais Kacang during winter~ o.O I was freezing cold when I was walking back home that night, plus its VERY windy that I had a hard time walking forward. God, please let spring come more quickly. >__<

    ♥ Juniors In Need

I was told that this university do not accept clearing students at all this year. Which means that all my PNB juniors who failed to meet the minimum requirement of their pre-offer letter will be forced to study in Australia or Malaysia, especially if their appeal effort do not come through. Someone told me there are about six to seven poor souls who is currently stranded with no place to go, thanks to PNB's strict policy when it comes to university choices.

One of my juniors have contacted me and ask various questions regarding Australia, its education, its community and university's requirements. I wonder where the others seek help from. It's not that I'm the only one here that they could ask help from, but I'm here for them to have options and extra opinions. You know, people have different sights on things. And some people only share the outer life of Australia, and some aren't as keen to help. I just hope that they aren't as shy to ask, because I never bite. Unless if it's edible~ XD

During my time, I was very disappointed with one of my seniors. I pushed away all my shyness just to ask some important questions about UQ and life at Brisbane to someone older than me with utter respect. But what did I get in return?

'I really don't like it when people get too scared of the unknown. There's nothing to be scared of, especially when making mistakes. That's the only way you will learn. I was alone when I first came here as well, but I survived. You should be able to too.'

Yup, that's what she replied me with. Don't you just feel like hot-peppering her tongue? Well, she didn't exactly say it, more like she wrote it through email, but you get the point right? What's the use of being a senior if you can't help? What's the use of having juniors if you think you're better off alone? We're in a community. We're under the same sponsorship. Wake up and look around you and see how many selfish bastards are out there when it comes to helping someone in need.

I'm glad that she's already gone since the beginning of 2010. Hell, she even had to take a summer course during her final year to able her to graduate in time. Slacker~ I'm certainly NOT going to do something like that to my juniors.

I would love it if they would want to join me here in Queensland. But maybe I would be asking too much since University of Melbourne is much much more well-known by other Malaysian. Many would kill to get in, I suppose. But if you look at the rankings carefully, ANU is a BETTER university yet no one really knew about its existence, and UQ is only 3 steps away from the top rank anyways. So why bother with all the trouble when you can come to the peaceful St Lucia, save money and enjoy a calming weather on every season and still be in a really really good university?

Yeah... Malaysians and their lame mentality...

    ♥ MORE PICS!~

Hey everyone! I'm finally back for a while! OMG how I missed to write on this blog so much. When I was writing out my assignments, I was constantly reminded of writing nonsense in The Advent Hope~ How I could leisurely ramble and not mind of how the outcome might be. But when I'm writing out my Marketing Plan, ughhhhh... Not only I have to make it sound formal, but we have word limits for it! So I really have to compress the whole semester's syllabus and still make it sound heavily elaborated and convincing in only 3000words... @_@

Anyways, now that I'm finished with my part of the Marketing Plan, I'm going to spend at least an hour here and ramble ON and ON until you're bored and tired and close this window hahahaha! Now let's move on to more picture-story time!!! woohoooo!~~ ^_^

Consider this as a warm up photo~ XD It's actually the road I use to get to uni everyday. The uni is behind me as I'm taking this picture btw. The field at the front there is the field I used to lay down and have marketing group discussions. The red, white and yellow lines on the road are their zebra-crossing. As I've once mentioned, when you cross the road in Aussie, you can walk as slow as you want and still won't get honked by the driver (unlike in Malaysia~ =.=).

The bulding on the right is the Sir Llew Edwards Building, where I usually had my Accounting tutorial. This is just a pathway that I seldom use but I suddenly had the urge to take a picture of it since it has so many small steps. UQ really has it's own contours, even though not so obvious like in UiTM Shah Alam. hahaha!

That's the signboard towards my Faculty-Business, Economics and Law! haha not that I have any classes held there. I have my class all over the uni, but when it comes to administrative stuff like submitting MAJOR assignments, you have to submit them here. And in case you want to go for consult (meeting the lecturer or tutors if you have any questions since we have very limited contact time in class), this will be the place, because staff offices are in this very building.

This is another signboard to the Business School, a different building from the 1st one, but they're next to each other. I have my Marketing tutorial here. It's a very nice building, with a rooftop terrace where people/students can hold events especially when they want to enjoy the cool breeze of the night. A Malaysian society once had a 'Makan-Makan Night' where they invite all Malaysians to eat MALAYSIAN FOOD there, including mee mamak, roti canai, teh tarik and also various types of kuih-muih. And its free!! But that was held last semester when I wasn't here. This semester, they held it at another place, and we had to pay for the food in DOLLARS~ =.= I didn't go for it.

THIS... is the West End Market. hehehe. Look a lot like Pasar Malam? ehhh... Pasar Pagi?? Well, it does look a bit like it, but everywhere is CLEANER~ XD Even the sections selling beef, mutton and seafood are CLEAN and NOT SMELLY. hahaha~ okok I shouldn't make fun of my own home country. But still, it's the truth. They sell LOTS of things here, from handicrafts, breakfast, ice-cream, farm-made honey, groceries, and there's even a stall selling the service for plucking out eye-brows! XD Though, the main highlight of the West End Market is that everything that is sold here is made by the seller themselves. Meaning, they didn't buy it from another supplier and re-sell it. That's what I love most about this place, its ORIGINALITY.

And btw, that man sitting on the right there is actually doing free performance of himself playing the.... urmmm I don't know what that instrument is called, but its an old instrument. He was quite good at playing it! And at one point, there's this Aussie women who started dancing to the music he played and it was so lovely! I was waiting in front of a stall nearby and waited for more crowd to join and made it look like a mini celebration, but it didn't happen. Awww, and I didn't even get the chance to capture the dancing scene, because I was too engulfed with the situation and totally forgot that I had a camera~ hahah!

Yeahhh~ :D More free performance at the West End market! I don't even remember the exact name of that instrument and I'd just call it the BIG VIOLIN. hahaha!! He kept on playing some tune and it was also lovely and AMUSING~ ^_^ *DUM DUM DUMMM*

heheee... now its time for some more animal feature. Who can guess what these are? Birds? Hmmm, not really. They are DUCKS! Very beautiful and elegant DUCKS. I have no idea what they're doing here, but they started appearing along the streets as winter is approaching. =) Their feathers is simply beautiful with the shades of grey, black and dark brown. I've never seen DUCKS so lovely~ <3

And that's a stalkER. hehe... This long-legged birds just LOVE to roam around the Great Court in search of scraps. Sometime they might come near to you and just wait. Even when you shoo them away, they won't budge and will just stare back at you looking blurry~ But yeahhh, this is one of the usual things you will see in Australia, since you will NEVER see any stray cats or stray dogs anywhere. The only things that are left astray in Australia are turkeys and this bird.... =.=''

Aahhhhh this is a very very VERY VERYYYY old picture. It is actually the first ever full meal that I've prepared all by myself in Australia. Look appetizing? I hope so~ >.< My housemate liked it so I was relieved~ hahaha!!

And this one is the second or maybe third full meal that I've prepared for my housemates. You see, we have this cooking timetable (as what overseas students usually have when they live with other students by themselves) so my turn is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So, during those days, I'll have to sacrifice some of my time and cook for the household. =) So, does this one looks more edible? XD

Previously, it took me quite a long time to prepare a meal, but after 3 months of playing around with ingredients, I find myself being more creative and fast! :D Since we don't have that many resources aka ingredients (usually due to the busy-ness to go to the city to re-stock the fridge), we tend to make whatever from the things that we have left. So we don't really eat rice with two types of side dish like in Malaysia. At one time, we even end up eating TomYam Pasta! hahaha, not that I've ever heard of such dish... But yeap, I was the one who made it two days ago. XD

Yeahhhhhh winter is approaching~ This particular pic was taken a few weeks back I think. Just as it was approaching winter, suddenly that tree started to bloom~ LOL! I thought flowers are supposed to bloom more in spring!

And LASTLY, this picture was taken a few minutes ago~ ^_^ Gosh it's really chilly outside. Even though it's not as cold as the European countries or even the so-called RUSSIA, the change in weather really had its toll on me. No, I'm not having a fever or anything! Don't worry. My body is much stronger than that. ;D But yeahh, the huge temperature difference between the day and night is really hard to adjust to. It's better to be in the European countries because all you need to do is continuously get use to the decreasing temperature and that's all. But here, in the tropical country, it can turn out to be very hot in the day and SUPER COLD at night. And it changes EVERY DAY. *SIGH* So it sort of fluctuates your body temperature randomly~ @_@

So that's all for now. I better get back to writing my other assignment which is due Friday next week. The sooner I get this over with, THE BETTER! I just want to start on revising for my final exam which will start on 17th June. *SIGH SIGH* Why are they doing this to me. They should've at least let me enjoy my birthday first. I don't really mind having the exam during the morning, so that I can at least enjoy the evenings. But the paper on that day starts at 5.45pm and it's already DARK! I'll have to end up studying the whole day for my birthday this year... And it's all for my first final paper... =.=

    ♥ Want an update? XD

I know I haven't really tell you guys about what's going on with my life after I've arrived at Brisbane. My last entry was about my flight, and I don't even count the trivia being one of my life updates~ Haha! So I'm very sorry for that. Even though I've tried to find the time to update, I can't seem to find any gaps between my chores to happily rant away my tale from the down under. But when I think about it again, I don't think I'll ever find time for it anyways, so I might as well just squeeze anything in here. At least there's something rather than nothing, right?

So yeah, I'm studying ECON1310 at the moment. It's one of the courses I'm taking this semester. It's mostly a statistics subject and it elaborates more on the business side. For me, this is really a repetition subject because I've learnt about it during SPM and A-levels. Just that some of the terms used are different and the syllabus is very different (the sequence of taught topics). It's been a tough task to recall and relate the differences.. *sigh*

BTW, I'm not really taking a break at the moment. It's just that I just can't stop thinking about the note jija left me at the cbox. I love doing tags actually. It's fast and fun to prepare and it kind of tells about your well-being at the same time. As for entries like this, I usually take hours to finish. And I really treasure my study time over here (more like I'm allocating ALL of my time for studying. Gosh, I'm starting to become a kiasu =.=) But jija's note sort of knocked something in me too. I think I was being a bit selfish as to not share some of my time with my loved ones at home. (SORRY!!! <3)

So yeah, this is just a quick update on me. I have so many stories to tell once I got the time and when my internet bills are not exceeding. Even though the rate for exceeded data transfer now is different (previously it was $2/MB, now it's 12c/MB) but I'm trying to save my money for overseas trip as well. My bills will be renewed on 12th of April, which is on Monday next week, but that is when my classes will start again. Aishh.. But don't worry, I'll draft the entry on my laptop first and I'll straight away post it once I have a full 3GB data transfer to waste again~ XD

That's it for now I guess. I'll be back soon for more~ Until then, please take care! ^_^

    ♥ Malaysia VS Australia Trivia

    AT THE SUPERMARKET

Malaysia: At the cashier, you just shove all that is in your trolley to the table, the cashier takes each of the goods, scan the price, pack it for you (or you pack it yourself), total the amount, take the cash/credit card from you, hand you the receipt and you leave. No hellos and no goodbyes. No social interactions at all. (well, except for when they announce the total of your spending or when they ask for a membership card etc of course...)
Australia: The moment you step in front of them when it is your turn, the cashier will immediately start the conversation with the customers by saying "Hello, how are you?" at the very least. And we should reply, "I'm good/fine. How about you?" And while you're having this short conversation, the cashier starts scanning the prices and pack the goods. And before we leave, they will say "Thank you. Have a good day!" And we will usually reply, "Thanks. You too~"

Malaysia: We use plastic bags to pack our things. ALWAYS the plastic bags.
Australia: It is already a common thing for shoppers here to bring a shopping trolley/bags of their own. It's not that you would have to pay for the supermarket's plastic bags though.

    ON THE ROAD

Malaysia: The drivers thinks they are always right. And they drive VERY fast. Pedestrians will have to have an extra look out for the drivers particularly and when pedestrians crosses the road, they RUN to avoid from getting hit.
Australia: Pedestrians are the country's priority. We still have to look out for cars IN CASE they don't see us trying to cross the road. But when we are crossing the road, NO ONE RUNS across to avoid from getting hit, because the cars will willingly stop and wait for the pedestrian to arrive at the other side of the road no matter how long they take or how slow they were walking. They are very patient drivers.

Malaysia: The most cars you see on the road are either Proton/Perodua, the common models of Mercedes (E, C and S series), usual models of BMW and Volvo, and Toyota/Honda cars...
Australia: Common cars here are Nissan Skyline, Porsche, Mitsubishi Lancer, Mercedes CLK series, Bentley, JAEJOONG'S AUDI and all those fast cars that we could only see once in a blue moon in Malaysian highways. I swear I saw a Rolls Royce at Fortitude Valley once, just leisurely passing by... *jealous* Ohh, next time I want to have a look out for a Ferrari. I'm not sure if I've seen it yet~

These are the few that has crossed my mind now. I'm still in search of more trivias and when I have more, I'll post them as part 2~ ^_^ Gotta get back to my notes now. Hope you had fun reading! =)

    ♥ This is outdated, but....

    My Flight Journey to Brisbane
yeahh i know this is soooo outdated. But I already had it typed, so might as well post it up! Enjoy! XD

My flight took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at exactly 9.00am on 21 February 2010. We were considerably late and we caused the airport officers to walk around the boarding gate to search for missing passengers (What do you expect? The flight was damn early in the morning!). Luckily we didn’t delay the flight in any way >.<. But still, I was wearing a 2 inch heel shoes with a pointy front and it wasn’t being too friendly. I had to walk-marathon all the way from the customs all the way to the boarding gate with a 10kg burden on my back (which is my laptop bag). When I was at the scanning points, all I did was shove everything into the machine and quickly walked through the metal detector, reclaiming my breath as I did so. And as I pass through it, damn, it screamed. =.=’ Stupid machine. Luckily I was still in Malaysian do the officer that would have to hand-search me. It was only later on that I realized I forgot to take off my watch and that the sound was caused by my shoes… *sigh* I wonder where the manufacturer hid the metal inside those pretty and pointy shoes.

Then I safely board the plane. I went straight to my seat, and my father went to his. We didn’t manage to get a side-by-side seat because we checked-in pretty late so all the good seats were already taken. My dad already booked his seat and it was a window-seat. While mine was right in the middle of the plane, a place where the unlucky steward/stewardess from both sides of the lanes would receive a wave from me, asking them to pick up my empty plate or when I need some water. Oh yeah, btw I sat beside an Australian guy (he’s married since I saw his wedding ring~ LOL! Though, he wasn’t that handsome after all) and he was pretty nice. Not talkative though. All he did was smile and apologise whenever any of his stuff fell between our feets. =.=’ And on my left, it was empty… 8D I have no idea where the supposed person was but the empty seat turned out to be quite helpful. Because I shoved all kinds of rubbish on the empty seat while I minded my own business, watching some movies.

The flight was quite good. But guess what, I wished the plane could accelerate much faster at a higher speed during take-off. LOL! I guess I needed some adrenaline rush. :P We received a few meals on our way to Sydney. The first meal was at 10.30am Malaysian time. I think that was supposed to be our lunch. They served either Nasi Lemak or Omelet Salmon with tea or coffee. I took the Nasi Lemak since I don’t know when will be the next time I’ll eat Nasi Lemak when I arrive at Brisbane. It was quite good by the way. The Nasi Lemak was accompanied by boiled eggs and Rendang Ayam with cute prawns. No sliced cucumbers or anchovies or peanuts btw. But still, it was still nice. We had orange juice, fresh fruits, croiscant, and Ferrero Rocher chocolates too as the side dishes! By the end of the meal, I was full~ ^_^ Oh! I forgot to tell you, while I was having lunch, I was watching ‘Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs’. Believe it or not but that was my first time watching the movie. You want to know what I think about the movie? Urm…. Childish? Yeah, I didn’t like it that much. I kind of thought the story was ridiculous. It was fun to imagine that we can get food really easily, but the storyline (as in how the story developed and what conflict they added) wasn’t as interesting as I would expect. No offense, but sometime I really am fussy when it comes to the quality of entertainment I watch or listen to. XP

Anyways, I was actually planning to sleep during the flight. But nope. The mini screen I had in front of me didn’t permit me to close my eyes and put my mind on ‘pause’ mode. There were just to much movies! So I continued to watch more movies as the steward/stewardess continue on handing out orange juices or plain water every half an hour. It was very convenient~ =) There were new movies as well as old movies. I wished I could’ve watched more than I did. =.=’ I think I managed to watch about 4 movies on the way to Sydney. That includes ‘Cloudy With The Chance of Meatballs’, ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ (I’ve watched this a few times before and I don’t mind watching it again because Natalie Portman is pretty even though her character is ugly in here. Scarlett Johansson is HOT as well, keke~), then I watched a Korean Movie ‘Closer to Heaven’ (darn this story is so damn sad! The story’s progress was slow at the beginning and I was about to give up watching, but I stopped myself because I feel like I should end everything that I’ve started. So I continued, and the development of the story was really worth the tears… ^^), and I watched a little bit of Mulan (don’t you just miss this Disney movie? ^_^) but I slept half-way watching it. LOL! So I changed to ‘Down With Love’ (since my lovely Ewan McGregor played the lead guy). XD

OH!And I went into the airplane’s toilet after a few hours on board! Maybe it’s because I drank too much earlier. >.< Gosh, was tiny or was it TINY? XD I can’t even take another step inside the lavatory without stepping out of it… =.=’ And when you flush the toilet, your rubbish will be sucked out by high pressure within. Yes, it’s my first time using one. The last time I went to Brisbane, I remembered trying my best to hold the urges back~ XD And back then, the first thing I searched for is a toilet inside the airport. LOL!

Just before we arrived at Sydney International Airport, there was another meal where they gave out sandwiches. One of them was a tuna sandwich and the other was… urmm a veggie sandwich? Anyways, both of them were nice. :D Right about 8 hours after departure, we finally arrived. The temperature at Sydney then was 26oC and the time was around 7pm if I’m not mistaken. I remembered watching the sunset from my seat right before landing. It was extremely nice, since I’m a fan of sunsets myself~ Right at the end of the horizon, the shades clearly told me that this wasn’t the same as the ones in Malaysia. It had orange, red, blue, purple and white colours mixed together in a very wonderful way. I wish I could explain it better… It was a once in a lifetime moment, because not every day you will get to witness such a beautiful sunset from up above… If only I took a picture of it. *SIGH*

Even the transit passengers were required to leave the plane even though the plane we will use is the same. The pilot told us that the Australian customs required all the transit passengers to have our cabin bags checked. I think this will be the third time I walked through the metal detectors without even arriving at my destination yet. =.=’ What can I say. This is the down under… We had to line up more than half an hours because those aussie people were checking every inch of all suspicious bags. Aishh… When it came to our turn, I had to take out my laptop and put it on a separate tray, shove all bags into the scanner and took off my shoes~ This was the point that I realized there was metal inside my shoes after all. Because the first time I went through, I was still wearing my shoes. And when I took it off, the metal detector finally SHUTS UP~

Then we went to the waiting area and sat there for about 15 minutes before we were allowed to board the plane again. And again, they re-checked out passports and tickets. I should say that these people should learn to trust people a bit more.

The journey from Sydney to Brisbane was short. It was like KL to Kuching. =) We can’t access the movies, but we were given some snacks. It wasn’t dinner though… =.= Just some sandwiches with tea. And during this journey, I switched places with my dad and I get to sit beside the window! (Not that I can see much in the dark…) But still, seeing Sydney and Brisbane form up in the air was really a nice view. I noticed one thing though; Sydney was very flat geographically, while Brisbane has more contours even though both of them were located beside the river. It’s a nice fact to know, right? ^_^

At exactly 9.51pm Brisbane time (minus two hours for Malaysian time), we arrived at Brisbane International Airport. Ahhhh, Changmin once stepped on this soil… XD I can still smell his cologne~ LMAO~ Anyways, here, another fussy process commenced. At customs, it was all right. Just give the officer your passport and your entry pass, they certify everything and that’s it! Then we went to fetch our bags, 3 of them in total. And now comes the trickiest part of travelling to Australia. I brought some magi with me inside my luggage and I’ve declared it on my entry pass. I hope I’ll get through safely and they won’t find any other illegal things that I forgot to declare.  But nope, I totally forgot that Sabun Samak has soil in it. =.= And they have stated that all soil materials should be declared… Dup Dap Dup Dap… o.O The officer asked what is it. (He’s a guy by the way). And I told him it is soap. He asked what I need to use it for. My mind immediately became blank. Because I don’t know what ‘Samak’ is in English~ *SIGHSIGH* Then my dad told him that it was used for cleaning by Muslims. (Good answer! Why didn’t I think of that~ XP) And the officer suddenly smiled and went out saying “Oh, I’ve heard about that one! What was it called again?” And I was again: WHAT THE HELL IS SAMAK IN ENGLISH!!!? Then my dad saved the day again, since he answered “wudhu’” o.O Then I looked at the officer. He smiled and said “Yeah! That’s it.” And he let us go~ Honestly, I hope he won’t spread this to his friends or the people that he know. Because that fact is… AISH…. LOL!!

Then we were free to step out to Brisbane~ XD I quickly saw an old uncle holding up a UQ A4 sized board written ‘University of Queensland’ with a blue line at the bottom. (I thought UQ’s official colour is purple?) Anyways, I went to that guy and told him who I and my dad were. And he was being an Australian that he is, was being polite in his speech and all. There was already an Indian girl waiting and we had to wait a few more minutes for 2 more girls to come out of the International Arrival gates. (The exact same gate that Changmin went through~~~ <3333) hihiii~ And the other two girl turned out to be MARA sponsored students.

After everyone was gathered, the MASCA people requested to meet the Malaysian people (MASCA is sort of the Malaysian Student Association in Australia or something like that. I should’ve contacted this people to ask for list of names of who will be in the same flight as mine. IDP was useless… =.=’) I wasn’t in the list~~ T^T I was the sole scholar of PNB coming to Queensland, so nobody told them about my arrival. It’s lucky that I arrived with MARA people. If not, I might still not know about the existence of MASCA until today…

After everything was settled, we proceeded towards the UQ van. My accommodation was the farthest from the airport so we will be the last ones to get out. It took about 30 minutes to arrive at Macquarie Street from the airport. The driver was quite advanced since he used GPS to locate our addresses. I kept on hearing a lady’s voice saying ‘turn left now’, ‘200 meters towards the destination’, ‘take the first turn to the right’ and ‘destination arrived on your right’. It was a fun ride. =) Oh, and I managed to make friends with one of the MARA student. She’s doing Engineering, first year just like me. In fact, all of those MARA scholars will be doing either Engineering or Biotech.

So that’s basically what happened during my flight (MH141) hahaha!! I hope no one is having bad sore eyes, or if you’re starting to see curved letters on this screen already~ XD I deeply apologize. I realized that I was carried away~ =.= Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the flight~ See you on my next blog entry!!

    ♥ Settled! ^_^

Alhamdulillah~ Most of the things that I need to do before flying to Australia is done. I've just lodged in an online Visa Application through IDP this afternoon and I've already received their reply saying that my application was granted an hour ago! I mean, that was DAMN FAST! I was told that the earliest might take 3 days and the latest might be within 2 weeks, but this is LESS THAN 12 HOURS! I guess Australia is just too eager to invite me into their country~ loL!!

So after my I've received my visa, now I can settle all the paperwork needed for my permanent accommodation. It's a bit blurry for me. I know that I have to include the copy of my UQ offer letter, passport, visa, financial affidavit... what else? Um, better check with that housemate of mine later~

And OH! I've decided already! I'm gonna choose the flight on 21st! Screw the jet-lag! I'd rather be tired than having to intrude other people in the middle of the night... ^_^ So now all I have to do is confirm my flight date with PNB and book the airport reception...

Then... what else do I have to do??

Aaahh~ yes yes. I've just received my UQ student e-mail, username and password to access all the online stuff at UQ. Including my course enrollment. Hm, this really reminded me of UiTM hehe~ So now I need to read the manual a.k.a guide and start making finalization on the courses I'd like to take this semester... =) Hope I won't make any errors.

oh.. this is just a random pic I'm posting because I miss mirmira so much!

    ♥ Indecisive...

I'm having a slight headache at the moment. I don't mean it literally though (so you don't have to forward me any Paracetamol of any sorts), but I'm in a slight dilemma~ *sigh* Right now my sponsor has booked for me two flight dates, which is either on the 20th or the 21st of February (That is Saturday or Sunday) and I would have to confirm by Monday next week. Both of these flights depart from Malaysia at 9.00am in the morning and will arrive at Brisbane at 9.50pm at night.

    1. My orientation starts at 8.00am on the 22nd February.
    2. My housemate will only arrive at Brisbane at 6.05am on Sunday morning (21st Feb).

So if I were to take the flight on the 20th, I will arrive in the middle of the night with having no one at home. I've called my housemate asking for some help (since she's a Malaysian too, thank God!), and she told me she could arrange for me to ask for the keys from our neighbour since they left it with them. But that will mean that I will have to trouble her and the said neighbour, who would have to stay awake until I arrive at her doorstep asking for keys (which might be after midnight). And in the worse case scenario, the neighbour might fall asleep and might not listen to me knocking on the door and will leave me sleeping at the corridor for the whole night.

And if I took the flight on the 21st, there will be someone waiting for me at home in that foreign place. But I might suffer from jetlag (most probably, but I don't think so >.<) and might be very tired while attending the orientation the very next morning. But I can sleep during the flight, can't I? Though my mom is afraid if I slept all the way through meal-time. =.='

Is it okay for me to feel more confident on taking the flight on the 21st? Am I torturing myself and being over-confident of my own strength? Or should I just trouble my neighbour and stay alone at the unit for one night? What if there are ghosts? O.O or... if I suddenly fall home-sick due to the emptiness of the place. Aish...

    ♥ Take-a-peek!

Yeah, as some of you might hear, I'll be furthering my studies at UQ this year. UQ is short for University of Queensland in case you don't know. =) Actually I didn't want to publicise about this even to my own friends, because I really hate the idea of the measuring and comparing. And most of my friends tend to do that, and it's really annoying. I mean, it is a good thing if they asked me about my latest updates out of the care of their pure hearts and hoped that I'll get to further my studies in a good university so that we can succeed together, even at different places. But if the reason they ask is so that they could brag about their better achievements or better luck, well... that just sucks. So it's better that I keep quiet and save myself from the fires of anger. And since those friends of mine are unaware of the existence of this blog, so it is very safe for me to tell my story here, for the benefit of those who will be going to Australia after me.. Who knows~ =)

And in case any of you actually wondered how good this university that I'll be attending is, save the journey to Google because I've searched it up for you. (Yes, I admit that I'm very curious too. Just up to the point for me to be able to have expectations):

From THES (Times Higher Education Supplement) University Rankings 2009,

    1. ANU (Australian National University) [17]
    2. Uni. of Melbourne [36]
    2. Uni. of Sydney [36]
    4. UQ (University of Queensland) [41]
    5. Monash University [45]
    6. UNSW (University of New South Wales) [47]
    7. University of Adelaide [81]

note: Uni. of Melbourne and Uni. of Sydney are stuck on the same rank, so there's no No. 3. It's not a typing error. And the square brackets represent the university's world ranking.

Not bad at all, is it? And PNB only allowed us to go either to Uni. of Melbourne and UQ. Yes, I've came across the '2008 Business Schools in Australia Ranking' and it stated UNSW (not even in PNB's list T.T) as one of the top and UQ is at rank 5 or 6. Well, since I'm sponsored and everything about my education and career is now in the hands of PNB, I don't really care...

That is why I'm quite stressed when people start comparing and make my life miserable by pointing back at my past. I know I've made a considerable (and maybe unforgivable) amount of mistakes, but you know what? I've never regret making them! I've already considered it as part of my history so that I can learn from it and MOVE ON! Otherwise, I might commit them later in my life anyway, which could turn out much worse. So just be thankful for what has happened, okay?

Anyways, enough of that. My initial attention was to post some pictures that I stalked from UQ's facebook group. hehe~ It's not my first time flying to Brisbane, Australia, but I haven't came across such beautiful view during my 5-day visit a LONG time ago. It really reminded me of the Sakura flower of Japan.

Beautiful, isn't it? Perhaps it only blooms during spring, and when I came here previously, it was already autumn... Owh, btw the flower's name is 'jacaranda' if I'm not mistaken.

And down here are some more pics of the flower in close-up and UQ buildings.

That building is one of UQ's main building. I forgot the name...

The UQ lake's view at dusk.

I feel like being in Harry Potter's filming set. LOL!

UQ is really proud of this part of the architecture. The arc carvings, I mean...

    The lake during the day.

    UQ Customs.

    Bus-stop.

    Administrative Area.

Look at the length! They're waiting for a bus~ *sigh*

    Air view of UQ...

So now, all I'm waiting for is my financial affidavit from PNB. Once i receive that, I can submit them to IDP to receive my eCOE (Confirmation of Enrollment), which then allows me to apply for my student visa. Only when I get my visa can I apply for my accommodation... tsk tsk...
