| ♥ Moi Contract This is what they do, right? They auditioned, they got accepted (Yay!), they sign the stupid contract and voila~! They're already on stage. Well, it does look like a simple process and maybe it is. I can tell you, that the hardest part on signing a contract is when you have to check and re-check the contract booklet for any empty signature spaces, get everything signed by two different witnesses, check the official office stamps by those witnesses and make sure everything is valid... That's about it. I can tell you this because I've signed a contract myself, and my contract binds me down for more than 10 years. Yeah, about the same length as tvxq. The only difference is that their contract is a fully business contract, whereas mine is half education half business... so I'll tell you my part of the story, and perhaps you can find some connections between them. But honestly, I'm not sure which point I'm trying to convey at the moment~ hahaa I can still remember as I was approaching SPM in 2006. I was in MRSM Taiping, full with psycho-nerdies. (I'm telling you, the thing they're talking about people with excellent academic background, especially when there are a whole school of them, are bookworms and geeks.. It's a lie. It's a disaster in there. Intellect people are crazy, I say. But they won't show it to public. You'll just know that they are when you're locked up under one roof for 2 years.) All of us had visions of getting scholarships. Yeah, it's a great thing to have people to pay for your studies, help out your parents to save the money for other things. And it's even better if they are paying for your studies overseas. It's HELLA great!! I didn't even dream it at first, because I wasn't as bright as my peers, and my grades where average in the school. So I didn't put any hopes on it. I was already satisfied with my offer to study at UiTM. Yes, that's a contract too, but that's sort of 'Pinjaman Boleh Ubah'. Not a full scholarship and once you finish your studies, you pay them back bit by bit (in-full or discounted) and you can get on with your lives. Go to work where you want and do whatever~ But when PNB offers me the Overseas Studies Scholarship, it was different. I did not expect it. When I signed that scholarship contract, no other thing crossed my mind except for 'Oh! Somebody's gonna pay for my studies! And I get a hell lot of pocket money of my own on the way. And there's only 20 of us (the scholars) and how special we are! We're now PNB scholars! Woohoooo~!!!' Yeah I was kinda dumb at that time. All I ever think about is money and prestige. To tell you the truth, if you're not ready for it, don't even come close to it. If you're not on the right mind-set from the beginning, you're gonna fall anytime soon. If you want to fly freely as a bird, don't apply for overseas scholarships. BECAUSE... They restrict the universities you are allowed to apply to. And I was very 'unlucky' to be sponsored by PNB, because all that they allowed are top universities in the UK (Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick, LSE, Kings College, UCL, these are legendary universities, record the best grades in the world. You'd have to score a HELL lot of As to get in. And A-level is DAMN hard.) So yeah, we weren't in favour of such restrictions, so we asked for small amendments. (ahem ahemmm. see some similarities already?)We asked for them to at least provide 5 universities for each course since at the moment, my course in particular, only have 2 choices. (Oxford, Cambridge, UCL and Imperial do NOT offer Accounting and Finance course so it was more a privileges for the engineers. And since we're allowed to apply for 5 spots in UCAS - similar like UPU or something - my other 3 choices were gone to waste!) We heard this problem from our seniors in the beginning and they told us they've tried to get through those PNB CEOs but failed. They encouraged us to try again for the sake of our batch, and so we did. We did the research, be in constant contact with the PNB representative (you can see this person as our manager) and when the paperwork was done, we submitted it to her. But to our despair, it was again rejected by the Board of Directors and we were left with no choice but to follow their orders yet again. However, we didn't go as far as to the courts for this, we were mere students you see... But still, you get the picture of being held down, right? And imagine that you have tried very hard and perhaps harder than hard, you still couldn't manage to get the aimed grades, you have absolutely NO BACKUP. Whereas all the other scholars have the chances of applying to a lower demanding universities (e.g: Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield), we have none and were sent straight to Australia for a second try. Isn't that totally unfair? Especially when we have all our friends and seniors over there. Instead of making both our lives easier (by just letting us go to those 'other' unis) they just made things much more complicated and send us all the way to Australia all ALONE. And if you do not pass the 320 points, you just go straight to UiTM. Well, that's just plain sad. That is why I told you, you have to be sure that you're ready before saying YES (meaning you have to be extremely smart to be able to smile all the time under this type of contract and I don't think I'm up to that point yet. Yes, I can aim for a high score which means practice and more practice, but it's much more to being a sponsored student other than achieving the best grades ALL THE TIME). So at the moment, I'm already in debt with PNB of a 2 year working period with them. (One year of a-level must be paid with One year working under PNB or its subsidiaries appointed by PNB. And One year of degree overseas must be paid with Two years working period under the same terms.) So basically, I'll need to work with them for a full 8 years after graduating. (since I'm going to Australia somehow, the degree takes up to 4 years for an Honours Programme so I'll be working with them for another 2 year. 8+2=10.) So imagine the length where you have to listen to them an not able to really do what you actually want, 10 years of working plus 6 years of studying means 16 years of being the 'slave' of this organisation. huhuuu... Hmmm, you know what. This is my biggest weakness. I always forget the initial purpose of writing a post when I'm half-way doing all those rants and rambles. Because right now, I have no idea what to conclude. hahaa!! Please excuse me. I think I better stop now before I really make a fool out of myself. ta-ta!! ![]() Labels: Spazz |
